The fish have finished spawning and Paul Wilkinson was on for 4 nights. He got there monday to find the pegs he wanted to fish full till dinner. Paul grabbed some dog biscuits and his stalker rod and went an sat in Irvs garden to see if he could spot any fish, after about 5 minutes he saw a couple a couple so threw a couple of biscuits near them and one of the fish went straight for it so he free lined a couple ov biscuits out and after 10 minutes the same fish came up and nailed them. The fish gave Paul a good scrap and turned out to be a lovely looking common. On the scales it went 14lb bang on and it was a great start as he had not even got his gear in my peg yet. When dinner time came the lads went and Paul dropped in the mile swim and did alright. He managed 4 fish of a 4lb mirror , 12lb 2 oz mirror ,17lb 4oz mirror and an 11lb 8oz aswell as losing 2. Come thursday dinner time Paul packed up amd had all my gear round in garden ready to go when he noticed the amount of fish over on chimney side and in garden so he asked Irv if he could stay on a extra night and jumped straight in the chimney and up the gear went again nothing really happend till half 1 in the morning when his rod tore off and Paul played the fish for about 10 minutes. As it was edgeing its way towards the net when the hook pulled out. Nothing else happend after that but Paul wasmore than happy. None of them big ones came out but all good looking fish all the fish and bites apart from the one off the top came on dna maltx red tipped with a piece of dna candy stick. You can see all of Pauls pictures in the gallery section or click here
Well the hot sun on friday certainly saw the fish pairing and grouping up and by the time the sun had set and the temperature had dropped the fish went balistic and got to spawning big time. We were on on friday night and we never slept due to the crashing and thrashing in the pads and all around the lake, it was fantastic to sit up in the early hours with a brew watching some truly awesome big carp. Needless to say the rods were pulled in and they were left to it.
Chimney – Sebo
Hooters – Lee Fisher
Platform – Skippy
Summer Bay – Steve Hackers
Stumpy – Me
Mile – Pete Newell
Arriving in the afternoon and the lads were set up and in for about tea time. Hackers had a real nice scally Mirror at 21:30 at 13lb 10oz, It was quiet for the rest of the 1st night and day except for a couple of jack pike we caught just messing about for the pike. Hackers then had a PB common at 21lb 12oz at 05:15 on sat morning, he was buzzing and seemed to have the fish feeding well on his baited area. Lee fisher then had a small common on the Zig on sat evening from hooters at 8lb 2oz. Next to catch was Seb and it was his 1st fish out of fairview and a PB common at 22lb 8oz that was from the chimney at 16:00. The wind was blowing a hooly all weekend into chimney from summer bay. The fun really started at 02:00 on sunday morning when sebs alarms screamed into life and it absolutly ripped off just a one toner! he was into a decent fish and when lee landed it for him he anounced it was Bling. A real target fish for most people who fish fairview!! . In 2 fish he had broke both his PBs, thats what fairview can do!!!!! Bling weighed 29lb on the nose and looked really well. Seb was buzing and a few of them stayed up and cracked open a can or 2, Steve Hackers had another fish off his baited spot, a nice common of 17lb 12oz. His swim was really fishing well and he was keepiing the bait going in consistently and keeping the swim working well for him. Skippy had a run from the platform swim on his zig at about 05:15 Lee once again did the honors with the net and once again anounced it was Bling! unbelievable for a fish that usually comes out once or twice a year! Pictures taken and care take when releasing her to make sure she wasn’t too stressed and Andy was off to work. Hackers produced again at 10:30 on sunday morning a new PB common by 2 ounces! he had a 21lb 14oz common off the same baited area. Seb then had another fish off the chimney just as Andy returned from work, another known named and rare fish known a s goggle eye, he had this at 19lb 8oz, 2 lb heavier than it was last out last year. which is good for a old fish. Hackers then produced again this time from a different tactic and area, a really nice scally mirror of 13lb 12oz! Andy then managed to get a take from stumpy, only to see a sturgeon raise its head so not the carp i was hoping for, but a bend in the rod all the same. Hackers produced another off the baited area at 00:30 on mon morning in the shape of another PB common, this time 23lb 10oz, we thought it might be the warrior fish but we arent certain it looked a little dark in colour for it steve said. Then to top off what was a brilliant weekend, at 04:00 hour on monday morning Skippy got what can only be decribed as a screamer, there was no build up or little knocks to stir him the buzzer just screamed and didnt stop till he picked up the rod. it had ran that far it set petes buzzer off in the mile! Andy walked round to aid him with the net! the fight was long and the fish stayed really deep! it had alot of power and when i saw a flash of a long mirror i knew which fish it was we finally managed to get it in the net and told him it was C Scale he was Buzzing! he had had 2 fish all weekend 1 Bling and the other C Scale who weighed in at 32lb on the nose! Seb managed to get another at 07:00 on mon morning he had anothe nice common one of the white tipped ones at 21lb 11oz. This is a weekend to remember for 3 of us the 2 most targeted fish in the lake in 1 session for Skippy. The Yorkshire carpers had a great session and top angling from all the lads who caught and the one who didn’t! was a unforgetable weekend for some and it shows what can happen at fairview there really is some cracking fish in that lake!
MAY 2011
Andy Green – May 16th Summer Bay
After arriving at the Lake with the wind howling towards the gardens Andy saw Steve who was bivvyed up in The Chimney Swim. This peg looked great for a few fish, but after having a walk around the lake Summer Bay was decided upon due to it being Andys favourite peg and the fact that it would mean the two lads fishing had plenty of room to spread there lines out. Before nipping out to pick up his girlfriend who was staying for her first ever nights fishing andy baited the pads in front of the cabin with a couple of kilo of carp pellets and a scattering of about 50 boilies. He also baited off the pads to the right with 2 kg of DNA nutter S and fished his 2nd rod, His 3rd was on a 8ft zig in open water with black foam. The place came alive about 7 just as the temp started to drop there was bubbles everywhere and big fish were rolling. A big fish rolled about a rod length off his pellet baited area and Andy was getting linners on that rod. This continued until the line tightened up and it was pulling away, he struck into a strong fish and it was going from pads to pads, finally Andy got it in the net and he knew it was a good common! Andy said he had a load of liners through the night but nothing else materialised and he left at 12 the next day. You can see Andys common here
Neil Orchard – May
Neil Orchard travelled from St Helens to fish the lake and was rewarded with the awesome c-scale at a rising weight of 33lb 8 oz. check out his picture here
AUGUST 2008
The breaking News this month is that we have two new lake records, a first time visitor to Fairview as taken C-Scale at 41lb 15oz and a common of 29lb 3oz in the same session. both beating the previous lake records by over 1.5lb.
JULY 2008
Thanks to some of the lads filling the forms out we can keep a catch report going. This month its been hit and miss due to the weather and July is never one of the better months. those who have hit the right times though have done really well. Steve and Chris made there first visit over from St Helens and took fish of 24lb, 22lb, 2 x 17lb and 2 x 12lb, which made for a very nice first session and well worth the journey. i managed an over nighter with Wes and we both took a couple of Mid Doubles. Sab Horracks and old Fairview regualr has made his way back to the venue after 5 years away and took his first fish back a Mirror of 27lb. looks like we’ll see a bit more of him now! The only other reports that have come to me have come from Irv and include a 26lb mirror and various other low 20s coming to surface tactics.
JUNE 2008
The first week of June saw the Carp begin to spawn and as usual for fish welfare the lake was closed until they had finished. Once back on track the fish have really become active, multiple captures are the norm at the minute with lots of high doubles and mid 20lb fish coming out, reports of commons up to 27lb have been coming through. The 2nd round of the comp was fished and it produced another 100lb of fish over the weekend including ‘Bling’ at 27lb8oz, a well known mirror that will push the 30lb mark before long. All the pegs seem to be very productive and the action as been fairly consistent, most tactics are working.
To end June with a Bang, Biff and Andy our Whitby Crab Catchers proved that there not too bad at catching carp either, Andys return since his lake record capture of C-Scale proved him still on form with a nice 27lb common while Biff showed him he can still hold his own when he took a 30lb mirror and Warrior at 24lb4oz. well done boys, awesome bit of angling as usual.
MAY 2008
C-Scale was out at a new Lake Record of 40lb 5oz to Andy from Whitby. There was also a 32lb mirror caught. during the begginig of May there have been some very impressive captures, the fist round of the comp saw nearly 300lb of fish banked in just 48hrs. Lots of upper 20s have been coming out with surface tactics and zigs doin very well.
